IN THE BEGINNING...
In late 1990, after many years in the Parts and Service areas of the retail motor industry, I found myself a participant in Paul Keating’s “recession we had to have”…
My job search was marred by interactions with unprofessional recruiters, and employers who had no real idea of how to handle the hiring process.
In the back of my mind was a desire to be self-employed and I saw what I believed was an opportunity to use my industry experience to offer superior recruitment services to retail auto dealers.
Having been through some pretty ordinary experiences with “big name” recruiters, I knew that I could do better!

THE HISTORY OF LJW
The following timeline provides a history of LJW Employment Solutions:
Laurie establishes L J Williams & Associates in Melbourne VIC to service the recruitment needs of retail new vehicle dealers and related automotive businesses.
L J Williams & Associates adds to its network by establishing new offices in Sydney NSW, Brisbane QLD and Adelaide SA.
By 1998 the NSW, QLD & SA offices of L J Williams & Associates have been taken over by the respective State Managers, and from the late 90’s until 2008, L J Williams & Associates focuses solely on servicing the needs of automotive businesses in Victoria.
A new entity LJW Employment Solutions is created to allow Laurie to offer recruitment and behavioural profiling services to non-automotive employers; but fails to gain traction due to the Global Financial Crisis.
L J Williams & Associates forms an alliance with Sydney-based firm Automotive Personnel which was originally the NSW office of L J Williams & Associates. This alliance leads to the creation of Automotive Personnel International and allows Laurie to revisit his original goal of establishing a national recruitment network to service the needs of Motor Industry job seekers and employers throughout Australia.
Laurie retires the L J Williams & Associates brand to focus on his role as Southern Region Manager in the Automotive Personnel International venture. Laurie also re-acquires the original L J Williams & Associates South Australian operation and appoints a new SA State Manager.
Laurie elects to withdraw from the Automotive Personnel International alliance and repositions LJW Employment Solutions to focus exclusively on automotive based recruitment in VIC, SA and TAS.
LJW Employment Solutions continues to offer a range of professional services to retail Motor Industry business owners, senior managers and HR decision makers. These services are designed to remove the frustrations, risks and expense of Do-It-Yourself recruitment.
LJW Employment Solutions introduces unbundled recruitment services which offer all employers affordable access to Laurie’s 25+ years of automotive recruitment experience.
The unbundled recruitment services concept allows employers to outsource any or all aspects of a particular recruitment project in the knowledge that they are only paying for time spent on the assignment rather than a potential high placement fee.
With the Unbundled Recruitment Services offering gaining acceptance, Laurie focusses on continuing to provide exceptional value to his employer clients, and introduces additional job seeker coaching services.
In a world affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, crashing financial markets, and falling retail vehicle sales, LJW Employment Solutions introduces new Outplacement Services and develops a Termination Checklist to help those displaced by redundancy.
